Everywhere you turn something new is ECO friendly or Going GREEN.  Well for all the ECO conscience people out there, PROPS TO YOU, and now you can have your rugs be environmentally friendly as well.  The most common options are Jute, Bamboo, Coir, and sisal.  These fabrics are woven tightly together to create a mat or rug. Often natural fiber rugs are bleaches or dyed to create more decorating options, though over time many will darken to their natural color.

JUTE RUGS- are natural brown in color, and resemble wool the most compared to other natural rugs.  Jute Rugs originate from India and Bangladesh.  The fibers come from the stalk of the jute Plant, not the leaves, resulting in a softer fiber, but less durable than some of the other natural fiber rugs.  Jute is a rug used well in low to medium traffic areas, such as dining room, home office, bedrooms and or formal living rooms.

SEA GRASS RUGS-Sea grass rugs are very durable and have a latex backing, however they can not be exposed to the elements. This rug can be used on an enclosed porch or entryway, it has some of textured which adds dimension to an interior area with its natural color being light brown.

COIR RUGS-Coir rugs are made from the husks of coconuts and have a latex backing like Sea Grass Rugs.  They are environmentally friendly being that only discarded husks are used to construct these rugs, so the tree remains in tact.  Coir rugs are hand loomed, so imperfections are to be expected.  Use a rug pad underneath to protect the floor beneath, these rugs should be used in a screened in 4 seasons porch.
SISAL RUGS-SIsal rugs are the toughest of the natural fibers, making it a great options for high traffic areas, such as hallways, kitchen, family rooms, entryways.  Sisal rugs are made from the Sisalana plant, native to Mexico and parts of Africa.  Sisal is a unique fiber as it absorbs the humidity in a room, on hot days this can help keep a room cool.   The fibers are very course, no recommended for small children or bare feet.  Sisals natural color is creamy white and can not be used outdoors, prolonged sun exposure  will cause colored-sisal to fade.

BAMBOO RUGS-Bamboo rugs are made form a Bamboo Plant, it is a fast growing plant and can be harvested without killing the host plant.  Bamboo rugs are many benefits, its fire resistant, durability and easy care.  Bamboo rugs normally have a felt backing to protect the floor underneath from getting scratched.
